Meeting with Ft. Hood's 3rd Cav. Before Deployment

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Fort Irwin National Training Center in San Bernardino County, California to meet with U.S. Army leadership and observe Fort Hood’s 3rd Cavalry Regiment train for an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

Fort Irwin features training facilities and a climate that imitate the environment soldiers are exposed to when combating terrorism abroad. I witnessed a training simulation that pitted the Fort Hood based soldiers against Fort Irwin’s 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. The realistic training consists of all aspects of planning and execution of a battle.

I was able to meet with the soldiers training at Fort Irwin, many of whom are stationed in Texas at Fort Hood.

It is the kind of training that makes America’s soldiers the greatest in the world.

In the midst of so much uncertainty, I am thankful that our nation has such dedicated soldiers working so hard to protect us. It is imperative that we give these brave men and women the resources they need to ensure they remain ahead of the enemy when they take the fight overseas.

I met with U.S. Army leadership during my visit to Fort Irwin in San Bernardino County, California. Seated next to me are Fort Irwin commanding general MG Joseph Martin and MG John Uberti, the deputy commanding general for operations for the U.S. Army's III Armored Corps at Fort Hood.

Our service men and women are very capable, talented, and dedicated to what they do. The bottom line is that they believe in something bigger than themselves and that something is the protection and safety of the United States.

You can read more about Fort Hood's 3rd Cavalry in the Killeen Daily Herald, here.

My Tax Plan, Jumpstart America, is Gaining Support

Last week, taxpayer advocacy group, Americans for Tax Reform, endorsed my seven bill tax reform proposal:

"Over the past year, Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) has introduced several pieces of legislation that together should serve as a model for pro-growth, conservative tax reform.

"This package of legislation lowers individual and business income tax rates, reduces the capital gains tax and FICA/self-employment taxes, creates a 5 percent repatriation rate to bring back profits stranded overseas, and promotes pro-growth accounting methods.

"ATR supports Rep. Williams’ legislation and urges all Members of Congress to support and co-sponsor each and every bill."

Happy Texas Independence Day

Earlier this month we celebrated the enduring Texan spirit of resolve which officially began 180 years ago. Since the historical milestone of 1836, Texans have proven time and again that they are capable of overcoming adversity by rising to new challenges while taking care of their own. I am incredibly thankful to represent such patriotic, generous and determined people in the United States Congress. God bless Texas.

I celebrated March 2nd by taking a photo with my "God Bless Texas" boots in my Washington, D.C. office.
