Rep. Williams to Senate Leadership: Stop Protecting Obama from this Bad Deal

Williams Urges Sens. McConnell, Reid to Allow Up or Down Vote on Iran Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) today signed a letter sent to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid urging the Senate leaders to replace a procedural motion that requires a three-fifths approval with a simple majority vote on the Iran Deal.

"The American people's representatives decided last week that the Iran deal should not pass," said Williams. "But once again, the burdensome rules of the Senate have clogged the congressional pipes. The precedent set by Harry Reid should be invoked for this all too important matter of U.S. national security. Today I am asking Senate leadership to permit an up or down vote and stop protecting President Obama from having to veto Congress' disapproval of his Iran deal."

In the letter, Williams and his House colleagues wrote:

"The American people sent us to Congress to represent their interests…Yet, time and again we hear from our constituents that Congress either isn't listening or is incapable of performing its basic responsibilities as a legislature."
