Roger Williams Statement on Speaker’s Race

October 8, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas), chairman of the House Conservatives Fund, today released the following statement after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy dropped out of the race for Speaker of the House.

"Republicans need a leader who they can rally behind. We need a leader who can not only unite a divided party but one who can push for a more conservative agenda. We need a leader who can confidently voice strong alternatives to the Obama Administration's damaging domestic and foreign policies. I believe the House Republican Conference will in short time nominate a candidate for Speaker of the House who fits that mold."

Last week, Williams wrote the opposing view to USA Today's editorial regarding Speaker John Boehner's announced resignation.
