Williams on passage of the Keep Your Healthcare Plan

November 15, 2013

Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25) released the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Healthcare Plan. The House voted 261-157 in favor of the bill, including 39 House Democrats.

"This bill is one small step in the right direction for Americans. Before Obamacare became law, President Obama promised the public that if you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it. In recent weeks, millions have received letters from their insurance carriers stating the opposite – their healthcare plans are being cancelled. The rollout of Obamacare has been brutal, and there is no relief in sight. The Obamacare exchange website still isn't working, only 107,000 have signed up for these plans, and 3.5 million Americans have since lost their previous insurance – with that number expected to rise dramatically. What a disaster.

Yesterday, President Obama addressed the public to offer a temporary "fix" similar to the Keep Your Healthcare Plan bill. Unsurprisingly, he has already threatened to veto this legislation, leaving millions of Americans uninsured and with no other options. His signature legislation is a disaster, but the President doesn't have the authority to usurp Congress and make changes to the law. President Obama must be willing to work with Congress as we continue passing common-sense legislation that offers Americans relief from Obamacare.
