Williams Statement on President Trump’s Budget Proposal

May 23, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin), a member of the Financial Services Committee, released the following statement Tuesday afternoon after the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released President Donald Trump’s 2018 budget proposal.

“After eight long years of misguided fiscal policy, I am glad to see President Trump submit a budget to Congress that finally cuts bloated, out of control Washington spending.  For far too long, too much of our nation’s resources have gone towards debt levels that are unsustainable and limit the services on which many Americans depend.  While this is just the first step, I am encouraged this President realizes the importance of making sure our nation’s finances are in order.  In addition, this budget strengthens the rollback of the previous administration’s often burdensome regulatory environment that has hurt so many small businesses across our country.  And finally, while our country faces much uncertainty, both at home and abroad, I am glad to see a budget that reinvests in our military; fully reversing the defense sequester.  We must continue to support the men and women who sacrifice so much to defend our liberties.  I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to deliver a budget that not only benefits my constituents, but all American taxpayers.”
