Rep. Williams Grills Wells Fargo CEO in Hearing

September 29, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin) today questioned Wells Fargo chairman and CEO John Stumpf who testified before the House Financial Services Committee after hundreds of thousands of fake accounts were opened by the bank’s employees.

“I’m amazed at what you do not know about your business,” said Williams. “I have heard more ‘I don’t knows’ from a CEO then I have ever heard in my life. Because of your actions, it’s really making it extremely difficult for me to advocate for Main Street or community banks. So I’ve got one simple question for you. When are you going to resign?”

During the hearing, Williams asked Stumpf, “How many Texans were affected because of your mismanagement?”

Stumpf replied, “There are 149,857 accounts that we could not rule out as a possibility of being unauthorized.”
