It’s crucial for the growth of our nation that we ensure each student has access to high-quality broadband. That’s why I introduced the Eliminate the Digital Divide Act in order to empower states like Texas to utilize broadband networks that best fit the needs of our rural communities.
More than two million Texas residents didn’t have access to reliable internet before the pandemic, according to the Texas comptroller, while a staggering 18 million Americans nationwide had no access at all, per a 2020 Federal Communications Commission (FCC) report.
The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced what we already knew: Texas communities were underserved and in desperate need of high-speed internet access.

FORT HOOD, Texas — Congressman Roger Williams attended a ceremony Friday on Fort Hood to honor former prisoners of war and those missing in action.
The POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony was held at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and included a special wreath-laying.
FORT HOOD, TX - Congressman Roger Williams, whose district includes Fort Hood, was the keynote speaker at Fort Hood's POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony.
The ceremony was part of National POW/MIA Recognition Day which is observed on the third Friday in September, a date not associated with any particular war.
His platform is the same as it has always been: lower taxes, less government, cut the spending, defend the borders, listen to your generals, understand the 10th amendment and stand with Israel.
That’s what Rep. Roger Williams is all about.
“Our platform is always that,” Williams said. “We never get out of that.”
Senior leaders from Fort Hood joined Army leadership and Texas state officials on Friday in standing up the new U.S. Army Futures Command in Austin.
The command is expected to employ about 500 people, primarily civilians, and will operate out of the University of Texas System’s new downtown headquarters, which is surrounded by nearby startups and tech incubators.
In July, the U.S. Army announced it would bring its Army Futures Command to Austin–using the educational and innovative resources present in the Texas capital city to help the Army bring modernized weapons to its forces.

COPPERAS COVE — U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, made a visit to the Veterans Helping Veterans building on Wednesday to present a certificate and a medallion to a Korean War veteran who served time as a prisoner of war.
Retired Master Sgt. Clifford L. Petrey, a local veteran, was a POW in Korea for 32 months, according to information provided before the presentation.
FORT HOOD, Texas - Congressman Roger Williams (R-Austin) represents Fort Hood, one of the largest military installations in the world, and he spent Wednesday morning with the III Corps Deputy Commanding General and the Fort Hood Garrison Commander to get an update and tour their facilities.
Williams also met with soldiers to better understand the conditions and life at Fort Hood.
Williams said that while he’s proud to serve all of Congressional District 25 he’s most proud of serving Fort Hood, or as he calls it, 342 square miles of “Bring It On.”
Military cuts under former President Obama’s administration left the military largely gutted, Williams said, resulting in drastic reductions in troop numbers as well as available tanks and planes.
