Dear Texans,

Last week, I had the opportunity to recognize the famed Bluebonnet Belle C47 Skytrain on the House floor. Designed and built in 1944, it flew more than 75 missions during WWII. The Highland Lakes Squadron purchased the Belle in 2002, and it has called Burnet, Texas its home ever since.

As many of you know, on June 21, as the Belle was taking off for the Oshkosh Air Show in Wisconsin, it caught fire and eventually exploded. By the grace of God, all 13 crew members and passengers survived. I am thankful for the first responders who tended to the crew, and to those who helped contain the fire.

I am sad to say that the aircraft cannot be restored - it is a huge loss for the 25th District of Texas. We will always remember this plane and all it accomplished across the U.S. and the world. To watch my speech on the House floor, click here or below.

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019

For over 50 years, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has authorized the funding of the necessary tools our military men and women need to fight and win. In a time when our country is faced with increased threats at home and abroad, it is crucial that we equip our soldiers with adequate resources to protect this nation. As the representative of Fort Hood, I have fought for an NDAA that will ensure military readiness, provide our troops with a substantial pay raise, and strengthen our National Defense Strategy. This legislation will continue to incentivize innovation and the modernization of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and I look forward to President Trump signing this bill into law as quickly as possible.

The American Economy

Last Friday, the Bureau of Economic Analysis released its report on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2018. I am happy to announce that the U.S. economy grew by a pace of 4.1% in the last few months - the fastest rate of growth since 2014. The truth is, tax reform is working, and Americans are seeing the benefits already.

While this is great news, this positive growth should not be a one-time occurrence - it needs to be the new standard for America. In order to sustain a strong economy, Congress needs to make tax cuts permanent for all Americans and business, so that we can continue to see money reinvested into this nation.

Texas Unemployment Update

It's always a great day to be a Texan - with another 27,200 jobs added in June, we're experiencing 24 consecutive months of employment growth. There is a reason folks from all over the country are relocating in the Lone Star State - it's because of our hard work and don't-give-up attitude. I am proud to represent the good people of Texas-25 in Congress, and I will keep fighting to keep the Texas economy booming.

Legislative Update

Last week: In addition to voting on 13 pieces of legislation, the Financial Services Committee held a markup where we advanced seven bills to the House floor, including a bill I introduced, H.R. 3626, the Bank Service Company Examination Coordination Act of 2017. This bill will "enhance state and federal regulators' ability to coordinate examinations and share information on bank's technology vendors and partners. The legislation does not grant the authority to a state banking agency to examine a bank service company unless that authority exists under state law."

It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas’ 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.

In God we trust,
