Congressman Williams’ statement on April Unemployment Report

May 3, 2013

U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX), a member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the Department of Labor released its unemployment report for April 2013:

“Today’s job report in no way reflects a rebounding economy. Even if the unemployment rate continued at its current rate, it would be years before our country could reach full employment. We’ve got a skilled workforce still out of work – that’s not a sign of a recovering economy. With 46 million people – 15% of the population – living in poverty, millions of people on food stamps, and no jobs in manufacturing, we need to focus on growing our economy and not growing the government. We do this by cutting spending, shrinking the deficit, and replacing harmful laws like Obamacare, Dodd-Frank, and the President’s sequester with meaningful cuts and reforms. The private sector is the answer, not the federal government.”
