Rep. Williams responds to State Department’s Benghazi announcement

January 10, 2014

Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25) issued the following statement after the State Department announced for the first time the Sept. 11, 2012, Benghazi attacks were terrorist attacks.

"It is time for the Obama administration and Hilary Clinton's State Department to be held accountable for its failures leading up to, during and after the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. Americans have demanded justice for the loss of Ambassador Stephens and the three other Americans, yet the secrecy and lack of transparency of this administration have misled the nation since the hours immediately after the "spontaneous demonstration," as the commander-in-chief inaptly phrased it.

"Now that specific terrorist groups have been identified, I urge our President to listen to his generals and put forth a plan to bring justice for the American lives taken.

"For the sake of national security and our fight against terror, President Obama should also take this opportunity to label the massacre at Fort Hood on Nov. 2009 a terrorist attack. Former Army major Nidal Hasan has claimed his deadly actions were done in the name of terrorist groups, yet the Obama administration labels it "workplace violence," preventing the victims and families from receiving the benefits, treatment and awards that a terrorist attack would necessitate.

"From these two occurrences, the Taliban attack on an American helicopter in Afghanistan earlier this week, and numerous attempts and successful attacks, it is apparent the war on terror is far from over. Our commander-in-chief must ensure our military is strong and prepared, our national defense his number one priority, and that justice will be served."
