Williams: “President Obama’s most dangerous act to date”

March 14, 2014

Last night, President Obama requested a review of the administration's enforcement policies for immigration laws after meeting with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. The President expressed concern with current enforcement of the nation's immigration laws. U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX) issued the following statement in response.

"President Obama's decision to review his administration's enforcement of immigration policies could very well be the most dangerous, irresponsible act to date in his presidency. We are a nation of laws. When people break those laws, they must face the consequences. If not, why enforce any laws in the first place? Over and over, President Obama has selected various laws he no longer wants to enforce, a direct violation of the law itself and his oath to uphold the law. U.S. citizenship is a privilege – not a right – and millions of immigrants have followed our laws, waited their turn, and eventually become naturalized citizens. This is the process President Obama once swore to uphold.

"Dozens of American lives have been lost in the fight to secure our border. These Border Patrol agents' loss should not be in vain. They have put national security above their own goals, interests and safety, and now the President wants to make their sacrifice obsolete. Obama's latest attempt to erode our nation's immigration laws and Constitution is a disgrace and will be a nonstarter should he approach Congress, as the law requires."
