Dear Texans,

I had the pleasure of meeting with a group of 4-H students from Cleburne, Texas in our nation's capital last week. These kids are the future leaders of this great nation and it's important we talk with them about issues that matter and hear their concerns. I am honored to represent them in the 25th District of Texas and I enjoyed having them in Washington.

Tax Reform 2.0

A little over six months ago, Congress passed the most historic tax reform in 30 years. However, as I have always said, we are not done yet. I am working hard with House Leadership and President Trump to ensure tax cuts are permanent for all Americans so that the government cannot come back and take your money. Additionally, I hope to see more improvements in Tax Reform 2.0 such as cutting the payroll tax for employees and employers - we need to deliver on what we promised to the American people. The Integration of Baseball Commemorative Coin Act

Baseball has always been America's game. Growing up as a baseball player has shaped who I am as a person on and off the field – I know it takes hard work and perseverance to achieve anything worthwhile. Baseball's impact on our country is best exemplified by Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. In 1947, he changed this game forever when he stepped out on Ebbets Field to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. At a time when integration was considered ambitious and unachievable, baseball led the way by bringing together Americans from all different backgrounds – celebrating their love of the game. Baseball took center stage during a pivotal time in our country's history, which is why I am proud to introduce the Integration of Baseball Commemorative Coin Act with Congressman Cedric Richmond, and Senator Tim Scott. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Update

Last week, House Democrats showed their true colors and refused to stand up for American national security. Every day, our country faces serious threats, and ICE agents play a critical role in combating these challenges in order to keep us safe. I have, and always will, support the brave men and women in uniform who risk their lives for this nation, which is why I voted to support Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The JOBS and Investor Confidence Act of 2018

Small businesses make up 99 percent of American companies and employ almost half of our workforce. In 2012, Congress passed the first JOBS Act that focused on supporting growth in small enterprises, followed by the JOBS 2.0 Act that simplified overbearing regulations – both were huge steps for American entrepreneurs. For the U.S. to compete with the global market, we need to continue to sustain long-term economic growth, which starts with the passage of the JOBS and Investor Confidence Act of 2018. I encourage the Senate to quickly take up this strong package, comprised of 32 individual pieces of legislation, that passed out of the House with wide bipartisan support. Legislative Update

Last week: in addition to voting on 38 pieces of legislation, I participated in three Financial Services Committee hearings. The Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit held a hearing to examine capital regimes for financial institutions. If you missed it, you can watch it here. The full committee received testimony from Chairman Jay Powell of the Federal Reserve regarding monetary policy and the state of the economy that you can find here. Lastly, our third and final hearing of the week was for the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, that I am vice chair off, regarding the digital currency and how it affects the future of money. Click here to watch.

This week: the Committee will hold a markup tomorrow at 9:00am CT to consider and vote on the following:

  • H.R. 1511, the "Homeless Children and Youth Act of 2017"
  • H.R. 2069, the "Fostering Stable Housing Opportunities Act of 2017"
  • H.R. 2570, the "Mortgage Fairness Act of 2017"
  • H.R. 3626, the "Bank Service Company Examination Coordination Act of 2017"
  • H.R. 5036, the "Financial Technology Protection Act"
  • H.R. 5059, the "State Insurance Regulation Preservation Act"
  • H.R. 6332, the "Improving Strategies to Counter Weapons Proliferation Act"
