Roger Williams Cosponsors Repeal of ‘Deceptive’ DOJ Program

June 3, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas), a member of the Financial Services Committee, spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to support an amendment that would prevent the U.S. Department of Justice from using appropriated funds to implement Operation Choke Point.

Operation Chokepoint, a program overseen by the Justice Department, subjectively categorizes certain businesses as high-risk, resulting in lender discrimination against legitimate and legal companies.

"Hardworking American business owners are having their livelihoods ripped out from under them," said Williams. "Operation Chokepoint is un-American, deceiving and simply wrong. It's time this Congress uses its power of the purse to rein in this government overreach and restore government accountability"

The amendment to the Fiscal Year 2016 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Act (H.R.2578), cosponsored by Williams, passed the House Wednesday evening.
