Dear Friends,

We are back to work in Washington this week where I will continue fighting on behalf of all of you in the 25th District of Texas. Tax relief is still coming your way and I am excited to share some updates with you:

Tax Reform Update

Last week, the Senate passed their budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18). Later this week, we anticipate, the House will vote on their version and hopefully pass it so we can move forward toward real tax relief. As I have said time and time again, this budget is the key that will unlock true and meaningful tax reform, and we owe it to all Americans to get this done right. It is my hope to get more money back into the hands of hardworking Americans like you, and I will not stop fighting for a complete overhaul of the current system.

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

The House passed a version of the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) in July, and the Senate just recently passed their version. The two chambers will begin to reconcile the two bills this week in order to achieve one defense policy bill before the current continuing resolution (CR) expires in December of this year. I am happy to let all of you know that I have been appointed by House Speaker Paul Ryan to serve on the NDAA Conference Committee, where I will do everything in my power to ensure our military is the best equipped and prepared fighting force on the planet.

Legislative Update

This week: we'll vote on H.R. 732, the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2017. This bill will bar federal agencies from requiring defendants to donate money to outside groups as part of settlement agreements, and requires that settlement money goes either directly to victims or to the Treasury. Settlement slush funds are part of the previous out-of-control administration and we need permanent reform to end this abuse of power for all future administrations.

The House Committee on Financial Services, where I serve as vice chair on the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, will hold a continuation of the full committee hearing on the Equifax Data Breach on Wednesday at 1:00pm CT. You can stream it live here. The Committee also has two bills up for a vote on the House floor this week: H.R. 3898, that I am a co-sponsor of, and H.R. 3972, both of which passed out of Committee with unanimous bipartisan support.

It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas' 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.

In God we trust,
