Come and Read It Report

Oct 3, 2017

Dear Friends,

We're back in Washington and I am continuing to push hard for real changes up here that will benefit all Americans. Here are some highlights I want you to be aware of:

Tax Reform Update

It has been a long time coming, but I am proud and excited to say we are finally making headway with tax reform. House Republicans released the Unified Framework for Fixing our Broken Tax Code last week, that includes much of my plan, Jumpstart America. You can find my full statement on the matter here.

Equifax Data Breach Update

As I've stated from the beginning, my first concern is the American consumer. It is of the utmost importance that consumers feel confident in their financial security, and as promised, the House Committee on Financial Services will hold a hearing to question Former Equifax CEO and Chairman Richard Smith on Thursday. My colleagues and I are working hard to ensure someone is held accountable for this outrageous violation of personal privacy.

Legislative Update

Last week: I sent a letter to President Trump urging him to ensure that religious organizations and churches affected by Hurricane Harvey receive funding from FEMA in order to rebuild.

In addition to voting on 13 pieces of legislation, I co-sponsored three pieces of legislation: H.R. 1150, H.R. 2832, H.R. 3053, and a piece of pending legislation, known as the PASS Act.

This week: We’ll be voting on H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which is particularly close to my heart. We are also scheduled to vote on the Budget Resolution at the end of this week, which will be the vehicle to get us to tax reform.

The House Committee on Financial Services will hold three full committee hearings, that you can watch here, here, and here. The third hearing, which will be held on Thursday, will be our first chance to question Former Equifax CEO and Chairman Richard Smith.

It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas’ 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.
