Dear Friends,

Last week I traveled across the 25th Congressional District of Texas, and am happy to report that I was able to complete our summer tour of all 13 counties. Here are some highlights from the past week:

It was a true honor to meet the Army National Guard's 236th Engineering Company in Stephenville, Texas. This Guard was the first to be called upon for Hurricane Harvey rescue and relief missions down in Houston. It was humbling to stand in their presence and thank these heroes for all they do.

I met with local business owners from both Stephenville and Lampasas to have an open discussion about legislation that is important to them and our country. We talked about my tax reform plan, Jumpstart America, and how I can offer a small business owners perspective on true tax reform for this nation.

For the first time since Abbott High School opened its doors 1886, the Panthers Baseball Team earned their first Division 1A State Championship. We had a great time meeting these all-star athletes and trading baseball stories. Congratulations, boys - swing for the fences!

Healthcare Update

Last May, I voted to pass the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which takes steps towards repealing Obamacare. Once the Senate is able to pass a bill to do exactly that, I will continue to keep in mind what is best for our district, as well as the United States, when it comes to taking the next steps. Ultimately, it comes down the Senate being able to get to work and do their job, so we can successfully pass a bicameral healthcare reform.

Tax Reform Update

I have reintroduced my plan, Jumpstart America. My plan is smart, bold, and offers an authentic business owner's perspective on true tax reform. Bottom line, Americans are paying significantly too much and keeping far too little of their hard earned dollars. I am working hard to make sure taxes are fair and affordable for everyone. It's way past time that we accomplish real change in Washington, D.C., and give the American people real tax reform – we need to jumpstart this economy.

Legislative Update

Two weeks ago: I attended a hearing on the House Committee on Financial Services Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade - a subcommittee for which I serve as Vice Chair. If you missed it, you can watch it here.

In addition to voting on 44 pieces of legislation, I co-sponsored two pieces of legislation: H.R. 3797, and H.R. 44. Along with other members of the Texas Delegation, I sent a letter to Dr. Ben Carson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, that urges this department to speed up relief funding for Hurricane Harvey.

This week: The House Committee on Financial Services will have three pieces of legislation on the floor this week: H.R. 1235, H.R. 2519, and S. 327, which is a Senate companion bill of H.R. 910, that passed the House in May of this year.

It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas' 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.

Sincerely,
