Come and Read It Report
Dear Friends,
I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday and had the chance to spend time with family and friends. Last week was a time to remember everything we are thankful for,and show those we love how much we care. Representing all of you in Washington is something I will always be grateful for, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the great State of Texas.
Tax Reform
The House passed their tax reform bill, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, almost two weeks ago. This week, we await the Senate to vote on their version of the bill. Once that bill passes, it is expected that the two Chambers will meet and conference the two bills in order to come up with a plan that benefits all Americans. Middle-income families and small businesses deserve a tax cut, and I will not stop fighting until we achieve that and send it to the President's desk. This country needs reform, and I am hopeful we will get this done before the end of the year.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Update
After five years of the CFPB acting unconstitutionally and exercising overregulation, I commend President Trump on appointing Mick Mulvaney as acting director. Mick is a good friend, and after serving the House with him for four years, I know he is the appropriate choice. Earning back the trust of the American people is of the utmost importance, and I know that under Mulvaney's conservative leadership we will get there. You can find my full statement here.
Legislative Update
The Financial Services Committee will hold two subcommittee hearings this week that I will participate in. There will be a joint subcommittee hearing between the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee and the Terrorism and Illicit Finance Subcommittee. The hearing will be live-streamed here and is on Wednesday at 1:00pm CT. The Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, that I serve as vice chair on, will be live-streamed here on Thursday at 1:00 pm CT.
It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas' 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.
Sincerely,
Roger Williams
Member of Congress
