Dear Friends,

We are a little over a week into 2018, and we are already seeing the incredible benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act all across America:

  • More than 100 companies are paying their employees more
  • Already $935,822,000 (and counting) in employee bonuses
  • Over $1,550,150,000 invested back into the economy

We promised more jobs, fairer taxes and bigger paychecks for all Americans. This legislation is having huge impacts on businesses by allowing them to reinvest into their operations. They are hiring more Americans, which means more jobs available for everyone. Additionally, they are giving back to their local communities by increasing their charitable donations. Legislative Update

This week: we are back in Washington for the first time this year, and I am excited to vote and fight on behalf of the great constituents of the Texas-25th District. In addition to many other pieces of legislation, we are voting on H. Res. 676, to stand with the rights of the people of Iran to peacefully protest - I strongly support the people of Iran who are courageously speaking out against their government. The time is now to recognize the hostile actions of the Iranian regime, and I urge the President to do everything he can to support these brave and resilient protesters.

The Financial Services Committee will hold three subcommittee hearings this week that I will be participating in. The Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, that I am the vice chair of, will hold two hearings - tomorrow at 9am CT and Wednesday at 1pm CT. The Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit will hold a hearing tomorrow at 1pm CT. During this subcommittee hearing, my bill, H.R. 1264, the Community Financial Institution Exemption Act will be discussed. This bill would require the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to exempt community financial institutions, unless the CFPB 'makes a detailed, written finding' stating otherwise.

I have included some articles and releases you may find interesting located on the right side of this newsletter. It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas' 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.
