Dear Texans,

I am sure many of you have heard about the recent package explosions in and around Austin this month. If you receive a suspicious or unexpected package, please DO NOT open or touch it. Immediately call 9-1-1 to report the package and stay away from it. We have already lost too many lives and others have sustained serious injuries because of this. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones during this difficult time. To read more about this and stay up to day, click here.

Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Update

I know you've heard about the 4 million hardworking Americans receiving over $4 billion in bonuses thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. However, have you heard about the 40 states, including the great State of Texas, where utility bills are dropping? You can find out more at fairandsimple.gop

Additionally, I joined Fox Business News' Mornings with Maria last week to discuss how Congress is continuing to work to fine-tune the tax code and make it even better for Main Street. We need these tax cuts to be permanent, and I promise you I will keep fighting so you can keep more money in your pocket. If you missed it, you can click here to watch.

School Security Bill Update

Last week, I met with Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to discuss my school security bill, H.R. 5107. I am pleased to report to all of you that it was an encouraging meeting to explore what we can do to increase security at our local schools. As I have said before, the Department of Education's top priority must be securing our schools and protecting our students. I was happy to discuss my bill with the Secretary and welcomed her feedback on how we can continue to further advance safety measures for our nation's children and teachers.

TX-25: I Want to Hear From YOU

In case you missed it, last week I sent an email requesting you and your family, or your business, to share your stories with me regarding difficulties y'all have faced when trying to access credit.

If you have had problems accessing credit due to overbearing government regulations, I would like to hear about it. Please click here or email TexasCD25@mail.house.gov to share your thoughts with me on this important issue.

Legislative Update

Last week: in addition to voting on 12 legislative items, I cosponsored H.R. 911, the Saracini Aviation Safety Act of 2017; H.R. 1267, the PHIT Act; and H.R. 5281, the Congressional Review on Trade.

I also participated in a Financial Services Committee hearing for the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, that I am the vice chair of, to evaluate CFIUS. If you missed it, you can watch it here. I also participated in a hearing for the Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance regarding data breaches and how we can combat it in the future.

This week: I'll be participating in another Terrorism and Illicit Finance Subcommittee hearing where we will explore the financial nexus of terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime. You can watch it live here on Tuesday at 1:00 pm CT.

It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas' 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.

In God we trust,
