Dear Texans,

A week ago, President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security announced the deployment of the National Guard to the Southern Border. I have always been in favor of using any and all means necessary, including more boots on the ground, to secure our nation's borders. As the former Secretary of State of Texas, I applaud Governor Greg Abbott's swift actions and will continue to work with the President and Congress to ensure we take additional steps to keep our citizens safe.

In case you missed it, I joined Fox Business News' Mornings with Maria last week to discuss the border. Click here or on the image below to watch.

House Leadership Update

Last week, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced he will not seek reelection this year. As Speaker of the House, Paul has served our country honorably. I appreciate his leadership in both policy and in character, and I was proud to work with him to achieve historic tax reform. I wish him well in his future aspirations and thank him for his service. You can find my full statement here.

Honoring Mark Johnson and his sister, Wendy.

I took to the House floor last Tuesday night to recognize Mark Johnson, who completed a double-Ironman from Marble Falls to Lufkin, Texas to celebrate his 50-year-old sister, Wendy, who has Down syndrome. Today, and every day, let us celebrate advocates like Mark, his sister, Wendy, and all individuals with Down syndrome and their families. You can watch by clicking here or on the image below.

Conservative Excellence Award

The American Conservative Union (ACU) released its annual ratings for 2017, the First Session of the 115th Congress. I am proud to tell y'all that I earned ACU's highest award of Conservative Excellence for voting to uphold conservative principles. I have always said, ‘if you vote for your district and vote with your conscience, you'll never go wrong.' As the representative for Texas' 25th Congressional District, I am proud to say that I have voted and fought for each and every one of you as long as I have been in office. I look forward to continuing to fight for conservative principles that restore American freedoms and reduce big government. You can find my full release here.

University of Texas Men's Swimming and Diving Team

As the representative for the University of Texas, I had the opportunity to honor the Men's Swimming and Diving Team on the House floor for winning the NCAA title for the fourth consecutive year. Good job Longhorns and hook 'em! Click here or below to watch.

Legislative Update

Last week: in addition to voting on 10 legislative items, I cosponsored H.R. 5280, H.R. 5369, H.R. 788 and H.R. 592.

I also participated in a Financial Services Committeehearing where we received testimony from Acting Director Mick Mulvaney on the 2018 semi-annual report of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB). To watch my questioning, click here or below.

This week: I'll participate in a full committee hearing where I'll get the opportunity to receive testimony from the Federal Reserve Vice Chairman for Supervision, the Honorable Randal Quarles. You can watch it live here.
