Come and Read It Report

Jun 4, 2018

Dear Texans,

Our pro-growth agenda is continuing to work for our economy. Just last Friday, the Department of Labor reported that 223,000 jobs were created in May - way more than economists expected. Also, we're continuing to see the unemployment rate fall. We hit 3.8% last month, and last time the jobless rate was this low, it was in April of 2000. For more information, click here.

Last week, I had the opportunity to visit with the great constituents of our district in and around Austin. Check out some highlights below:

I had a great time touring and meeting with the folks of the Austin Habitat for Humanity. The work they do here is so important to our community, and I appreciated hearing their ideas and thoughts on legislation that matters to them. Keep up the good work!

I was able to stop by the Hays County Precinct 4 Office in Drippings Spring and I enjoyed talking with Constable Ron Hood and Commissioner Ray Whisenant - thanks for all that ya’ll do to protect the people of Texas' 25th District.

Legislative Update

House Republicans are working hard with President Trump to deliver real changes to the American people. Recently, we were able to pass multiple bills that are now heading to the President's desk for his signature - some were even signed into law just last week. Here's a quick overview of what we've been working on:

  • Rebuilding our military by passing the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (H.R. 5515, NDAA)
  • Rolling back regulations so we can better serve the American consumer (S. 2155)
  • Fighting for patients and giving them hope (Right to Try Act)
  • Reforming our prisons (H.R. 5682, First Step Act)

This week: I'll be participating in a Financial Services Subcommittee hearing on Terrorism and Illicit Finance. You can watch it live here on Wednesday at 1:00 pm CT.

It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas’ 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.

In God we trust,

Roger Williams

Member of Congress
