Come and Read It Report
As your representative, I made a promise to do everything I can to secure our borders in order to keep you and your families safe. Unsurprisingly, pro-amnesty, open border Democrats are doing everything they can to undermine and target Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
This past July, House Democrats filed legislation to abolish ICE - this unconscionable and concerted effort to harm our law enforcement officials and safeguard illegal immigrants who violate US laws was met with rightful outrage across Texas. In response, I was proud to cosponsor H. Res. 990 to express my unwavering support for our ICE agents, and encourage their courageous work to keep our country safe.
True to form, 167 of my colleagues across the aisle turned their backs on these brave men and women, and either voted to not support them or didn't vote at all. As Democrats condemn the work of federal law enforcement agencies, know that I will continue to support those who defend our borders, and I will oppose any legislation that gives a free pass to those who enter our country illegally.
The Booming Economy
The good news keeps coming - after years of struggling to get ahead and make ends meet, Texans are finally seeing more jobs and more money in their paychecks. I'm working tirelessly with my colleagues in Congress, as well as the President, to ensure we keep this economy booming for everyday Americans and workers. Take a look at recent results:
- 201,000 new jobs added in August
- 3.9 percent unemployment
- Highest wage growth since April 2000
Longhorns in Washington
As the representative of the University of Texas at Austin, it was great to attend this year's Longhorns on the Hill breakfast with President Greg Fenves and some Texas Exes! Hook 'em!
Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
As a survivor, I was honored to recognize September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. This year, over 160,000 men will be diagnosed in the US - that's one man every 3.2 minutes. Education and early detection is critical to stopping prostate cancer in its tracks, and therefore, we need to better educate our fathers, brothers, sons and friends. All men are at risk, and I encourage the men of Texas' 25th District, and around the country, to participate in regular screenings.
It was my honor to recognize National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month on the House floor last week. Click here or below to watch.
Last week: In addition to voting on 13 pieces of legislation, I participated in three Financial Services Committee hearings. Last Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, that I am vice chair of, held a hearing regarding the future of coins and banknotes. We also had a full committee hearing on Thursday, and Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance hearing on Friday.
It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of Texas’ 25th Congressional District and as always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.
In God we trust,
Member of Congress
