Come and Read It Report
Dear Texans,
It has been a great week seeing so many constituents while I am home for this district work period. There are so many incredible people, organizations and companies that work every day to lift up our community and it is always a pleasure to hear from them. I was able to spend time at several of these community establishments this week and I wanted to share more about my visits with you.
To start off the week, I spent Monday in Clifton giving remarks at their Memorial Day event. It was a beautiful day paying tribute to our fallen heroes. To learn more about the day, read Carol Reuter's coverage in the Clifton Record.
On Tuesday, I had an op-ed published in the Dallas Morning Newson the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade deal (USMCA). President Trump has negotiated a deal with our neighbors to the north and south that will give Texas a major economic victory. Already we are seeing the White House move to push this across the finish line, and I look forward to helping with the effort.
Later in the week, I was hosted at Southwestern Adventist University by President Dr. Ken Shaw. While there, I toured their new nursing facilities where they are training the next generation of health care leaders, and learned more about their work to ensure students are career ready. There is a growing demand for nurses in America and this program plays an important role in closing that gap.
While on campus, the University also hosted a meet and greet with members of their faculty, community and local officials. I was able to provide the group with an update on my work, both in the district and in Washington, D.C., as well as answer any questions they had. I thank President Shaw for his leadership in making sure our young people are educated and engaged in their community.
I also had the honor of visiting the Children's Advocacy Center of Johnson County. These dedicated individuals, led by Executive Director Tammy King, are the unsung heroes in so many children's lives. Each and every day they provide children who have suffered abuse with a safe place to heal and work towards a brighter future. Their work has provided so many children with a new found hope and sense of security in their lives, and it was so heartwarming to be with them.
Finally, the Chisholm Trail Senior Village put together a town hall event for their community members to come out and ask me their questions. We covered everything from health care to the border to our local education system, and much more. I appreciate the community members that came out to have a dialogue, especially on what was a very stormy day in Texas. For more information about my visits, read Jessica Pounds' coverage in the Cleburne-Times Review.
As always, please reach out to me with any issues and concerns that are important to you.
In God we trust,
