Come and Read It Report: August Wrap-Up

We've had a busy few weeks back in Washington, but I wanted to recap our district work period during the month of August, where I visited every county in our 25th District and logged over 3,300 miles between nearly 70 events. I had the opportunity to meet with some of our school leaders, law enforcement officials, business owners, veterans and families, and had some invaluable conversations about the state of our nation.

I'm always open to engaging in tough debates on the complex issues we are facing; but right now, our country needs more than political statements. We need realistic, actionable solutions that will bring about real change.

My recently introduced school safety bill (H.R. 3665) is a good place to start. It provides schools with the funding and resources necessary to identify points of vulnerability and correct security shortfalls on campus, along with requiring panic alarms for use in the event of an emergency. Last month, I stood with superintendents from three of our school districts to explain the urgency of my proposal, which received overwhelming support across the district and country. We all agree that it's far past time to ensure the safety of our children and educators. Click here for more information.

When I'm back home in Texas visiting with residents in our district, I'm reminded that it is here, in our communities, where our strongest bonds exist. I am proud to represent you in the United States Congress.

In God we trust,

Roger Williams

Member of Congress

I stood with school leaders in Copperas Cove, Cleburne and Lake Travis holding multiple school safety press conferences on our commitment to ensuring the safety of our students. No parent should ever fear sending their child to school, and no child should fear for their own safety in the classroom.

Fort Hood plays a key role in protecting our freedoms at home and around the world. Recently, Lieutenant General Pat White took over as Commander of Fort Hood, and I joined him for the Division West change of command ceremony at Cameron Field and a visit to the Carl. R. Darnall Army Medical Center. This month, III Corps Headquarters will be deployed to Iraq for their next mission, and I hope you all will join me in praying for their safe return.

Our brave men and women put their lives on the line for us every day, and I am committed to making sure they have the resources, equipment and respect necessary to safely complete their missions. It is my honor and privilege to represent The Great Place.
