As an ever-changing situation unfolds across our nation and world, we can all do our part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. This includes washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and staying home unless absolutely necessary. We will get through this by working together.

Updates in Texas

Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster this past Friday and activated the National Guard to stand ready to assist in the mitigation of COVID-19. Additionally, by the end of the week Texas will receive 15,000 test kits from FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) alone and will conduct testing alongside hospitals, public health authorities and private operators.

If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough or shortness of breath) please contact your health care provider immediately. Visit my website at williams.house.gov/coronavirus for additional up to date information and resources.

I spoke with local officials this week to provide updates on COVID-19 and hear what is most beneficial for our communities in response. Transparency, reliability and communication between the federal and local levels is key. We're all in this together.

Parents

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released a guide to creating a home plan in the case of an outbreak in your community. It includes suggestions for ways to care for members in your household with health complications, identifying aid organizations in your neighborhood and preventing the spread of infection. You can learn more here.

Medicare Beneficiaries

Thanks to expanded telehealth coverage, Medicare beneficiaries will now receive a wider range of services without having to travel to their health care facility and risk potential exposure to COVID-19 This is encouraging news and I'm pleased to see the Administration take action to protect our seniors. Learn more here.

Military and Veterans

If you are a solider or a family member of a solider and have been affected by travel restrictions due to COVID-19, the U.S. Army has a 24-hour hotline to assist you: 1-800-582-5552 (option #5). You can find more information here. If you are a veteran, the Central Texas VA has additional information and resources available here.

On Sunday, we observed a National Day of Prayer for our nation and world. It is my prayer that the Lord provides protection over our families and the health care professionals on the front lines of the outbreak, and that He gives us a spirit of unity and healing in our communities.

In God we trust,
