Providing for Our Military

Jul 25, 2020

This week, I voted to continue the House's bipartisan tradition of nearly six decades by passing a national defense bill that provides for our men and women in uniform. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) authorizes the annual budget for the Department of Defense, and it is the responsibility of Congress to deliver these results for those who defend our freedom and liberty every day.

The legislation passed this year offers our troops a well-deserved pay raise and supports their families, along with ensuring the Department of Defense has the resources needed to effectively combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The FY21 defense bill takes deliberate steps to confront China’s growing aggression and global influence, while boosting America’s nuclear armament and weapons modernization. While I didn't agree with every aspect of the bill, it is my priority to provide support to our nation's heroes and I worked with my colleagues to come to an agreement.

Our warfighters deserve the very best and we must ensure they remain the most modern, ready and lethal organization in the world. The servicemen and women I represent on Fort Hood and around the globe are the best among us, and I will always be their greatest champion in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Baseball is back! While our world has changed dramatically over the last few months, America's favorite pastime still holds a special healing for our nation in times of uncertainty and has the ability to unite men, women and children from all walks of life. Let's play ball!

Texas is the most pro-business state in our nation and I am very pleased Tesla has chosen to build its new Gigafactory in Austin. We have low taxes, fewer regulations and more freedom for entrepreneurs than anywhere else in the United States. Not only will this investment generate even greater growth for our state and the Central Texas area, it will create thousands of jobs and ensure that we remain the strongest economy in the country. Welcome to Austin, Tesla!
