Congressman Roger Williams commends Central Texas College

March 21, 2013

Today, U.S. Congressman Roger Williams commended Central Texas College and Chancellor Thomas Klincar for their quick action in offering to provide grants to military students affected by the suspension of most Department of Defense tuition assistance worldwide.

After the DoD’s decision sparked outrage earlier this month, the House of Representatives passed a funding bill today including a provision reversing the decision by the Army, Air Force and Marine Corps to suspend the program. In the Army alone, an estimated 201,000 soldiers took advantage of the Army’s Tuition Assistance program in fiscal year 2012.

“I applaud the quick action by Chancellor Klincar and Central Texas College board to ensure our troops receive their hard-earned benefits and support,” said Williams. “This just goes to show why Central Texas continues to be the greatest place for our military and their families. It is a distinct honor to represent CTC and so many of our military families in Texas’ 25th district, and I am pleased that Congress passed a very important measure today to do our part in upholding promises made to our armed forces. Taking care of our military should be our most solemn responsibility, and CTC has shown they will never leave one of our heroes behind.”
