Congressman Williams Applauds Fed Chair Nomination
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin), who serves as a vice chair on the House Committee on Financial Services, released the following statement today after President Donald Trump nominated Jerome Powell as chairman of the Federal Reserve:
"Jerome Powell has a wealth of knowledge in the Federal Reserve, and I commend the President's decision to nominate him as the next chairman. I have faith that Powell will get the Fed back on track to provide this nation with a safer and more stable financial system, and I urge the Senate to quickly consider his nomination."
Jerome Powell took office to fill an unexpired term as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in 2012. He was reappointed in 2014 for a term that does not expire until 2028.
Janet Yellen was appointed Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in 2014. Her term will expire in February 2018, where she will then return as a member of the Board of Governors until 2024.
