Congressman Williams Introduces Bill to Give Texas the Authority to Secure the Southern Border
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Monday, Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25) introduced the State of Texas Operational Protections Act (the STOP Act), which affirms the State of Texas’ right to secure their southern border, including the construction of a border wall, and may seek reimbursement from the federal government for any actions taken.
“As the crisis at our border spirals out of control, President Biden, his border czar Kamala, and Secretary Mayorkas remain unphased,” said Congressman Williams. “This is simple common sense legislation to put the safety and wellbeing of Americans first. Texas policies and initiatives work, but Texans can't afford to wait on Biden to take this crisis seriously and secure our border. If the federal government refuses to take action, Texans must be allowed to protect our communities from this invasion on American soil.”
Background:
- Affirms the State of Texas’s right to implement operational protections along the southern border, to authorize the state to construct a physical border wall in areas where the international border is not adequately protected with physical barriers, and to allow reimbursement from the federal government.
- This comes as President Biden is suing Texas for attempting to secure the southwest border.
