Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin), who represents Fort Hood, one of the largest United States military installations in the world, and served on the National Defense and Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Committee, released the following statement today after President Donald Trump signed the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law:
“Our country’s national security is absolutely paramount, and I am grateful that President Trump signed the FY18 NDAA in a swift and timely manner. When it comes to the safety of the United States, nothing can eclipse the need for this crucial funding that will help ensure our military readiness. As the representative of Fort Hood, this law will directly impact our servicemen and women by providing them with the biggest pay raise in eight years, as well as the equipment, resources and funding they need to be successful. Our American heroes are the finest fighting force in the world, and it’s time we start treating them as such.”
Note: Following the release of the final Conference report for NDAA on November 9, 2017, Rep. Williams said, “After serving on this committee for two weeks, I am extremely proud of what we accomplished. The House and Senate came together to create a package that will strengthen our military, give our troops a well-deserved pay raise, and ensure military readiness to keep our nation safe and secure. Once this legislation goes through final passage it will then head to President Trump’s desk. I urge the President to act swiftly by signing this NDAA in a timely manner so that our armed forces are provided with the tools they need to be the most powerful fighting force in the world.”
