Congressman Williams Statement Richard Cordray’s Resignation

November 17, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin), who serves as a vice chair on the House Committee on Financial Services' Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade, released the following statement after Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray announced his resignation:

"For five years, CFPB Director Cordray continually took advantage of his unilateral authority at the Bureau, all the while furthering his own political agenda. The Bureau has exercised overregulation for years under Director Cordray's supervision. I hope the new chairman will recognize and begin to rein in this harmful job-killing Washington bureaucratic overreach. While I prefer a complete overhaul, the CFPB is long overdue for new leadership."
