Congressman Williams Votes to Make America Secure Again

July 27, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin), who represents Fort Hood, one of the largest United States military installations in the world, released the following statement Thursday after the House passed H.R. 3219, Make America Secure Appropriations Act, with a vote of 235-192.

"The security of our nation has and always will be a top priority. President Trump asked us to work together to pass funding to secure the southern border, and I am proud to say we were able to fully fund his request. We also gave our service members a much-deserved pay raise of 2.4 percent. This is the largest pay increase in eight years and it will get our brave men and women, who have their boots on the ground, the necessary equipment to be prepared to meet any threat. Additionally, this legislation takes care of our American heroes by providing the highest level of funding, ever, for the Department of Veterans Affairs. We needed to ensure the safety of our country and that is exactly what we accomplished today. I urge the Senate to act quickly on this carefully, and intentionally, designed legislation so it goes to the President's desk immediately."
