Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) today released the following statement after the Office of the Secretary of Defense notified Williams’ office that Fort Hood has “been determined to no longer be appropriate for use as a temporary shelter at this time.”

Last month, Williams urged the president, the Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Homeland Security not to provide temporary housing for unaccompanied alien children at Fort Hood.

“As I said then and will say now, Fort Hood is a military installation and not a daycare center,” said Williams. “Our military’s resources have been strained, but the Obama Administration still believes that other bases around the country are suitable places to house illegals who should not be here in the first place. While I am glad Fort Hood can now dedicate its time and energy to training our best and brightest, we must work to secure our border and return these children to their families.”
