Obama’s budget is bad for business

March 4, 2014

Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25), a business owner of 42 years, issued the following statement in response to President Obama's newly introduced budget.

"Once again, the President has unveiled a budget that proves he has no business sense. With $1.8 billion in higher taxes from this budget alone and $6.8 trillion added to the national debt since 2009, the President will continue burdening middle-class families, small business owners, and the military to foot the bill. I don't believe this President will ever stop ignoring the real problem: spending. Instead of addressing the blatant waste, fraud and abuse within government spending, the President wants to spend more and more.

"Every family and every business operates under a balanced budget; the federal government should be no different. It's a basic principle to not spend more than you have, but the President continues to borrow from future generations with no plan to pay it back. This is a poor business plan and irresponsible governing.

"Until the President changes course and makes drastic spending cuts, the outlook for middle-class Americans as well as individuals below the poverty line will remain bleak. Wages are at historic lows, 11.3 million adults have dropped out of the labor force, and one out of five households is on food stamps. These are signs of a flat-lining economy. I will continue working with my colleagues on the House Budget Committee to produce a budget that will slash spending, promote job creation and decrease dependency."
