Rep. Williams Announces Additional $630,000 CARES Act Grant for Robert Gray Army Airfield

KILLEEN, TX Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today announced an additional $630,000 grant awarded to Robert Gray Army Airfield by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to help maintain airport safety and infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds, provided through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), were made available under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

“During these uncertain times, providing resources for airports to continue their work is crucial for our nation’s economic survival,” said Congressman Williams. “Thanks to the CARES Act, this additional AIP grant will give Robert Gray Army Airfield much-needed funding to proceed with construction projects may otherwise be neglected during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m proud to ensure that necessary improvements for safe and efficient operations are made to benefit the Fort Hood community for years to come.”

Project funding is broken down below:

  • $50,000 to seal taxiway pavement surface and pavement joints

    • Entitlement: $45,000

    • CARES Act Local Match: $5,000

  • $500,000 to rehabilitate the apron

    • Entitlement: $450,000

    • CARES Act Local Match: $50,000

  • $80,000 to install apron edge lights and/or flood lighting

    • Entitlement: $72,000

    • CARES Act Local Match: $8,000


Congressman Williams previously announced a $2,217,498 million award for Robert Gray Army Airfield to help maintain airport operations and projects during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, supported by Congressman Williams and signed into law by President Trump, included $10 billion in funds to be awarded as economic relief to eligible domestic airports affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It increases the federal share to 100 percent for the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) along with supplemental discretionary grants already planned for 2020.
