Rep. Williams, House Object Anti-Israel UN Vote

January 5, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin) and a bipartisan group of 341 Representatives Thursday night formally objected to last month's United Nations' Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements by adopting H.Res.11.

"The overwhelmingly bipartisan adoption of this House resolution illustrates this Congress' commitment to Israel," said Williams. "For too long President Obama has allowed his personal grievances to jeopardize our country's relationship with a reliable, strategic and friendly ally in the Middle East."

During last month's UN vote, the Obama Administration broke from tradition and abstained instead of using its veto power to block the anti-Israel resolution.

On the day of the abstention Williams said, "Israel is our strongest and most reliable ally in the most dangerous region of the world. When they are tested, we are tested. Today, Samantha Power and the Obama Administration made their true agenda known when they turned their backs on the Jewish people. I could not be more grateful that this presidency is finally coming to an end."
