Rep. Williams Statement on President’s Delayed Troop Withdrawal from Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) today released the following statement after President Obama announced that he would delay his planned withdraw of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, one day before Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is scheduled to address a joint session of Congress:

"It's really quite amazing that despite the advice of our military leaders and foreign policy experts it took the president this long to realize his campaign promise to prematurely end the war in Afghanistan was a mistake," said Williams. "The Obama Administration is learning the hard way that it is dangerous to gain a couple of votes in exchange for unwise commitments.

"While I want to see our brave men and women in uniform return home safely, an early exit from a conflict is a disservice to the mission and a disgrace to our service members who have sacrificed so much."
