Rep. Williams Statement on the Third Anniversary of the Congressional Baseball Practice Shooting

June 14, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today released the following statement on the third anniversary of the shooting at the Republicans' congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia:

"Three years ago, a gunman opened fire at our congressional baseball practice with the intent of killing us on the field. It could have been the worst political massacre in American history, but we're all alive today to tell a different story. There is no doubt that without the sharp action of Special Agents Griner and Bailey and local law enforcement, we would not be here. They are heroes and I thank God we survived because of them.

"Law enforcement officers like those at the field that day put their lives on the line to protect our families — they are some of the best among us. As we work toward justice in our communities, I thank those who have honorably and selflessly answered their call to serve."

Congressman Roger Williams represents the 25th Congressional District of Texas and serves as a member of the House Committee on Financial Services.
