Rep. Williams Votes Against Ex-Im Reauthorization

November 15, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today released the following statement after voting against the partisan United States Export Finance Agency Act of 2019 (H.R. 4863):

"Under no circumstances should the taxpayer-backed Export-Import Bank finance projects that directly benefit the Chinese Communist Party. This partisan deal does little to help alleviate taxpayer liability and increases a federal government role that the private sector is better equipped to handle – it's crony capitalism. China is our biggest economic competitor, and we must use every tool at our disposal to combat their growing global influence."

H.R. 4863 would reauthorize the Export-Import Bank for ten years and increases its funding level by 30%. The bill would not prevent Chinese-owned companies from receiving support from the bank, and continues to crowd out the private sector from export financing.

Congressman Roger Williams represents the 25th Congressional District of Texas and serves as a member of the House Committee on Financial Services.
