Roger Williams Statement on Administration’s Immigration Stay

February 23, 2015

“How ironic is it that a former constitutional law professor needs to be reminded that as president he is tasked with executing immigration law, not creating it?"

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) released the following statement after the Obama Administration today sought to reverse a federal judge's injunction on President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration:

"While it's no surprise that this administration is relentlessly trying to impose its overreaching immigration policy on Texas, last week we saw that our system of government is capable of keeping even the president in check," said Williams. "I applauded Judge Hanen's ruling because President Obama is operating well beyond the scope of his power. How ironic is it that a former constitutional law professor needs to be reminded that as president he is tasked with executing immigration law, not creating it?"

The administration's stay request follows last week's ruling by Judge Andrew Hanen of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas which blocked President Obama's executive action to shield as many as five million undocumented immigrants from deportation.
