Roger Williams Supports Defense Bill

May 15, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) today voted to support H.R.1735, the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 269 – 151.

"Despite several attempts by Democrats to sabotage this incredibly important bill, we were able to muster the votes to pass a defense act that will support our brave men and women who protect us," said Williams. "With new threats emerging almost daily, our nation's safety and security trumps politicized or ideological debates. Despite the attempts of a few, I am incredibly grateful that the national defense act passed."

The House-passed FY '16 NDAA prohibits the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to the United States, establishes U.S. strategies to combat ISIS and supports increased military benefits.

The NDAA, a defense policy bill, has passed Congress 53 consecutive years and is generally considered a bipartisan achievement that avoids congressional gridlock.
