FEMA Admin. to Roger Williams: We have sufficient funding right now
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas), a member of the Housing and Insurance Financial Services Subcommittee, today asked Brad Kieserman, a Deputy Associate Administrator at the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), about FEMA's ability to help Texans following the ongoing flooding throughout the state.
"When I go back home to Texas, you're going to have plenty of room to help Texans get done what they need to get done, right?" asked Williams.
"We have sufficient funding available right now to deal with the disasters in Texas," said Kierserman. "We did extend the period to file proof of loss by an additional six months to give people space and time to do that."
On May 29, Texas was declared a major disaster area by the U.S. Government, allowing affected individuals in Harris, Hays and Van Zandt counties to apply for federal assistance.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
