Rep. Williams Congratulates the Tarleton State Rodeo Team on House Floor

Sep 14, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin), who represents Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, congratulated the Men’s Rodeo Team for placing second at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR).

“This is an exciting time for the Tarleton State Rodeo Team and I am proud of all their achievements,” said Rep. Williams. “Their dedication to the sport is apparent in every competition and I know they will continue to work hard and bring home championship titles to the great State of Texas.”

In June, the Tarleton State Men’s Rodeo Team earned second place at the College National Finals Rodeo, that took place in Casper, Wyoming. In addition to the team placing, there were multiple individual teammates who placed as well: Tyler Berghuis took first place for Bareback Riding; Kyle Parrish placed seventh for Tie Down Roping; Brody Cress placed third for Saddle Bronc Riding; and Ky Bray placed sixth for Team Roping.

“The young men on this team are truly remarkable. No single event or category can be successfully mastered without commitment and a love of the game,” said Rep. Williams. “It takes a true cowboy or cowgirl to compete at the CNFR-level, and there is no state or school better equipped to train champions than Tarleton State University in the Lone Star State.”

Over 400 cowboys and cowgirls from over 100 universities across the nation compete at the CNFR each summer, and the Tarleton Rodeo Association is no newcomer to national championships. Since its inception, they’ve won seven national championship titles, most recently in 2015, and 27 individual national championships. To celebrate the Texans and TexAnns on the team for all their accomplishments last season, Rep. Williams took to the House floor Thursday afternoon to congratulate them on a job well done.

Williams’ remarks are below:

“Mr. Speaker, today I want to take a moment to recognize the Tarleton State University Rodeo Team, located in Stephenville, Texas.

“Now, if you’ve never been to a Texas rodeo, I can promise you isn’t like anything you’ve ever seen before.

“There is nothing quite like it, and frankly, there’s nothing more Texan.

“Day in and day out, the young men and women on the Tarleton State Rodeo Team are dedicated and give 100 percent no matter what.

“In fact, this summer, because of their hard work, the men’s team finished second at the College National Finals Rodeo.

“However, this was not an isolated accomplishment. The Tarleton Rodeo Association has been part of a winning tradition since 1947.

“They’ve won seven national championship titles and 27 individual national championships.

“Mr. Speaker, because of all of this, the Tarleton State Rodeo team is the best in Texas and one of the best in the nation.

“I am proud to represent these champions in the 25th Congressional District and look forward to watching them continue to dominate the competition.

“In God we trust, I yield back.”
