Rep. Williams on Fox Business: Funding Bill is a Continuation of Problems

September 30, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) spoke with Stuart Varney on Fox Business Network to discuss the continuing resolution (CR) to keep the U.S. Government funded when the new fiscal year begins on October 1.

This morning, the U.S. Senate passed a CR by a vote of 78-20. The House will take up that measure this evening. After recent allegations claiming criminal activity by Planned Parenthood, Williams pledged to oppose any government funding measure that would also fund Planned Parenthood. The Senate's bill will temporarily fund the government for two months using previous expenditure allocations.

"This continuing resolution is a continuation of problems – the things that don't work," said Williams. "There's not only Planned Parenthood (funding), there is also sequestration – we haven't done anything about that for the military, we're not doing anything about Dodd-Frank, we're not doing anything about CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) – which is literally tearing the heart out of Main Street America."

Williams, who introduced a seven-bill tax reform plan this summer, was asked if he believed the debate over Planned Parenthood funding would overshadow discussions about tax policy and the economy.

"There is a time in Washington and a time in your life when you must take a stand for something and that's what I am doing," said Williams. "I am one of the few people in Congress who owns a business. I am a business guy, but I am also devastated when I see these films come out of a country that I love so much. I'm glad to see Donald Trump, Jeb Bush and the others talk about true tax reform."
