Dear Texans,

Last week, our community experienced devastating flooding that wrecked homes, businesses, and infrastructure. I visited the folks in Kingsland and Marble Falls to evaluate and get briefed on the damage, as well as provide any assistance to local officials that I can. It came as no surprise that those of you in Central Texas were already working hard and coming together to make the best of this horrible situation. It's important to remember that Texans are tough, we will get through this, and we will rebuild.

Honoring our First Responders

In September, I had the opportunity to recognize the Bee Cave Police Department and the Lake Travis Fire Rescue on the House floor to honor them for completing the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. It was humbling to meet these men and women and present them with a flag flown over the United States Capitol, as well as the Congressional Record of the speech last month. All first responders are vital to the safety of Americans and we must never forget to thank them for all that they do.

Dripping Springs Homecoming

It was great to be with the Dripping Springs football team and participate in the coin toss. It was a good game and congratulations to the Tigers on their victory.

President Trump's 'Nickel Plan'

The federal government’s senseless spending habits have gone unchecked at the American taxpayer’s expense. I am glad to hear President Trump is taking strides to rein in the out-of-control expenses by calling for Cabinet secretaries to each cut their budget by 5 percent. This is a step in the right direction and I look forward to continuing to cut unnecessary, cost-laden programs that will leave our future generations to deal with burdensome, ancestral debt.
