U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, credits his decisions to enter the public arena to former President George H.W. Bush.

"I called President Bush when I was considering running for Congress and he not only encouraged me to do so but served as my finance chair and did so until recently," Williams said. "Even before then he told me that the most noble calling of all is public service and that greatly influenced my decision to enter politics."

WASHINGTON -- Thousands of well-wishers lined up on a chilly Washington day for a glimpse of George Bush's flag-draped casket and the opportunity to pay respects ahead of a state funeral Wednesday that will bring together five U.S. presidents and an assortment of kings, princes and prime ministers.

The 94-year-old Bush left office 26 years ago, and his death Friday night has provided a reminder of a kinder, gentler time in the nation's political life.

Memories flowed all day Tuesday at the Capitol, where Bush lay in state.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) will be attending the state funeral for President George H.W. Bush Wednesday in Washington D.C.

"More than anything, George Herbert Walker Bush embodied class and decency. He treated everyone with a civility and grace that frankly we need a lot more of today," said Cruz.

Cruz has known the Bush family for many years. In 2009, he went to meet with the former president at the Bush home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
