Less than a month ago, American children were going to school with their friends, spending time with their families, and living their everyday lives. All of that quickly changed on February 14 when 17 Americans were shot dead in a building they spend as much time in as their own home.

Any businessman knows that the best way to grow our economy is by embracing tax reform that includes pro-growth and pro-American economic policies. Congress is working on a plan that would dramatically overhaul our tax code for the first time in more than three decades — and this comprehensive approach should guide our country every step of the way.
Modernizing our tax code means more than just lowering rates. It is about doing away with our archaic, convoluted and uncompetitive tax code and replacing it with one that is fairer, flatter and simpler.
Last month, the most catastrophic hurricane in history hit the Texas Coast, and its aftermath destroyed entire communities. Over the past five years, there has been a sharp nine percent drop in flood coverage in Houston, primarily due to the unaffordable state of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Because the Program is financially out-of-reach for so many Americans, far too many of the affected homes in Texas have no financial backup and will be forced to pay out-of-pocket for damages, or worse, be forced to sell.
Representing Fort Hood – one of the largest military bases in the world – is the greatest honor I have as the Representative of Texas' 25th Congressional District. Known as ‘The Great Place,' it is the gold standard for the U.S. Army. It is composed of some of the bravest and most selfless people we have in this country. These men and women are not only an asset to Central Texas, they are vital to achieving the United States' national security strategy.
Seven years after its launch in 2010, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act has done nothing for American taxpayers besides provide 2,300 pages of impulsive and deceiving legislation. This disaster of a law has unfairly blanketed our entire financial system with more than 400 overreaching and costly mandates.

I decided to run for Congress in 2012 because I was not happy with the direction our country was headed. Among many concerns, I felt government was growing too big and our economy wasn't recovering quickly enough.
