America totters on the brink between a bright or dim future as November’s presidential election nears and the time for action is now. More so the time for God is now. Such was the message all three speakers imparted during Tuesday night’s Texas Patriots Tea Party meeting in Cleburne.

Several hundred attended the event to hear U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, state Sen. Brian Birdwell, R- Granbury, and state Rep. Matt Krause, R-Fort Worth.

“This country is better because of the Tea Party,” Williams said while adding that grave challenges lie ahead.

An Austin-area father and son were two of at least 84 people who were killed Thursday when a truck drove through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, according to friends and relatives.

Sean Copeland, 51, and his 11-year-old son Brodie were in Nice on a family vacation, the family confirmed through their friend Jess Davis. They died in what French officials say they are investigating as a likely terrorist attack.

After losing for seven straight years, the Republican congressional baseball team broke through to beat the Democrats on Thursday in their annual charity game.

The Republicans had a shaky few years — including a 22-0 blowout three years ago. But they defeated the Democrats, 8-7.

"These guys came here to play," said Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, a former TCU baseball star who helped coach the GOP team. "They've worked hard, and they earned this win. I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished."

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Not long after the break of dawn recently, U.S. Rep. Roger Williams hit baseballs on a basketball court here in suburban Washington. “Atta boy,” he cheered when his partner shagged the balls.

Williams, an Austin Republican, wasn’t talking to a kid. The comments — and grounders — were directed toward Jeff Flake, a grandfather and U.S. senator from Arizona.

The ground remained soggy Monday morning and puddle and mud encounters proved impossible to avoid. Yet the overnight downpour gave way to a cool, breeze-filled morning at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery as about 90 gathered to mark Memorial Day.

To many, the holiday brings summer’s kick off and family fun, several program speakers noted, all of which is good. More importantly, all said, is the opportunity the day brings to pause and remember those who secured our freedoms to enjoy such activities.

Caroline Rolling and her two sons, Jonathan and Tristan, have spent the last year trying to piece back together everything they've lost since the 2015 Memorial Day Flood.

"Still going home is the hardest part. Nothing survived, there's not a single tree, there is five feet of topsoil gone. There is nothing there." Caroline said, "I am still trying to find normal."

U.S. Rep. Roger Williams’ authorization of a “land exchange” between Fort Hood and Copperas Cove was included in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act, according to a release from Williams’ office.
“I am pleased that my authorization was included in one of the most important pieces of legislation of the year,” said Williams, R–Austin, in the release. “This legal framework will enhance Fort Hood’s efforts to train the greatest Army in the world and provide Copperas Cove with the tools it needs for economic development.”

Ahead of the June 23rd Congressional Baseball Game , Democrat coach Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Doyle and Republican coach Texas Congressman Roger Williams gave Roll Call a scouting report of practice so far. Republicans are working to redeem their losing streak while Democrats are aiming for their 8th consecutive win .

How long have you been coaching your congressional team?

Doyle : “I think this is 10 years now. I was a player for 12 years.”

Williams : “It’s my fourth year. Each year we’ve improved. Last year, I thought we should have won.”

The House Ways and Means Committee is holding hearings on tax reform in advance of major restructuring next year should a Republican win the White House.

Today, Rep. Roger Williams presents his plan to the committee. The congressman’s Jumpstart America legislation is a good plan, but I would make it better in these ways:

• Individual Income Tax Rates. Williams would reduce the current seven tax rates (10, 15, 25, 28, 33, 35, and 39.6 percent) to four (10, 15, 20, and 30). I would go to two rates (10 and 25), as envisioned in a previous Paul Ryan tax plan.
