Today, Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25) released the following statement after the House passed a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government along with House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon's (R-CA) amendment to equip the Free Syrian Army.
"Today our nation pauses to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and honor the memory of the thousands of innocent lives lost thirteen years ago. We are also mindful of the second anniversary of the terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi that took the life of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three more Americans.
Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25), along with Congressman John Carter (TX-31), sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel demanding the Department of Defense (DoD) to follow through with a law requiring a Purple Heart review. The 2014 National Defense Authorization Act mandates that Congress receive a report of the review of the Purple Heart award for the victims of the 2009 terrorist attack on Fort Hood no later than 180 days after the law was enacted.
Under the control of Senate Democrats, "The Senate went three months this spring without voting on a single legislative amendment, the nitty-gritty kind of work usually at the heart of congressional lawmaking," The Washington Post reports. "So few bills have been approved this year, and so little else has gotten done, that many senators say they are spending most of their time on insignificant and unrewarding work."
Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its annual Long-Term Budget Outlook, which had some sober news for the American people.

Federal Debt Is Soaring: The debt has doubled since the onset of the financial crisis, and CBO concludes the growth in the debt is "unsustainable."
Now Is the Time to Act: CBO says that prompt decisions to rein in future deficits would expand employment and economic growth.
Today, Congressman Roger Williams (RTX-25) responded to President Obama's request for support of the Texas delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives by inviting the President to meet with the Texas congressmen.
Williams states that President Obama differs from the Texas delegation in their end goal for solving the immigration crisis unfolding at the U.S.-Mexico border. President Obama has asked for $3.7 billion to expedite the legal process, while Williams supports efforts to seal the border first.
