Victims and families of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting could soon receive Purple Hearts, benefits and closure thanks to language entered in the House's National Defense Authorization Act late last night. During the House Armed Services Committee's markup of the FY15 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Congressman Michael Conaway (R-TX11) offered the amendment on behalf of Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) and Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX25). The Committee adopted the amendment unanimously by voice vote showing strong bipartisan support.

Today, the House passed a Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill that includes oversight and reporting provisions critical to holding the VA accountable. Congressman Roger Williams (RTX-25), a staunch advocate for better treatment of veterans, supported the bill and issued the following statement.

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3060, a bill introduced by Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25), to dedicate the post office facility in Burleson, TX, as the Sergeant William Moody Post Office Building. The bill will now wait for Senate action.
